The Celtic Underground Podcast No.238

After Harry updates on the Celtic Graves Event of Saturday 28th Feb in Kilsyth and the forthcoming CFC Foundation events we have the meet of the podcast with St Anthony.

St Anthony meets up with Andy Lynch.  In February 1973, Jock Stein paid £30,000 to sign Lynch for Celtic and, although Lynch was initially a winger, Stein successfully converted him into a left back. While with Celtic he won three Scottish league titles and the Scottish Cup twice. He scored the only goal in the 1977 Scottish Cup final.

THE CELTIC GRAVES

*** SATURDAY 28th Feb 2015 ***

THE Celtic Graves Society are holding an event this Saturday, February 28 at 12noon in Kilsyth Cemetery to commemorate the great Andy McAtee who played for Celtic from 1910 to 1924.

Speakers on the day include Lisbon Lion Jim Craig, former Celtic captain Tom Boyd, Celtic author David Potter and Tony McAtee, who will speak on behalf of the family.

As this is the first non-matchday event, the Celtic Graves Society will be holding a Q&A in a local pub with a small buffet provided after the event with former-players Jim Craig, Tom Boyd and Pat McCluskey.

Andy McAtee played in six championship-winning sides and won four Scottish Cup medals, a total that could possibly have been added to if the competition hadn’t been suspended during the First World War – a period when the Hoops won four titles in a row.

McAtee also played in four victorious Glasgow Cup finals, two successive double wins and in the last of those he scored the only goal of the game, a 1- 0 win over Clyde in 1920.

The Charity Cup proved to be something of a forte for McAtee as between 1912 and 1918, Celtic won the trophy an amazing seven times in a row and the right winger played in the first six of those.

In season 1915/16, the Celts completed a grand slam of all three competitions up for grabs when they lifted the championship, the Glasgow Cup and the Charity Cup with McAtee winning all three medals.

Celtic FC Foundation’s events calendar continues to grow – Ben Nevis Huddle. If you are interested in scaling new heights to support our work, why not sign up for our 2015 Ben Nevis Huddle!**

This follows the phenomenal success of our initiatives in 2013 and 2014, where a sea of green and white hoops – 108 and 150 respectively – scaled Britain ́s highest mountain and performed a Huddle at 4,408ft… in the snow! Across both years, an incredible total of over £45,000 was raised for Celtic FC Foundation. As well as Celtic legend Tom Boyd supporting this event in 2013 and 2014, last year we were delighted to welcome Hoopy the Huddle Hound to our mountain top huddle.

This year’s huddle will take place on Saturday, June 13 and participants will start the climb from the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, following the Mountain Track route. Former Celtic Captain Tom Boyd has already signed up to take part for the third year in a row.

Celtic FC Foundation CEO Tony Hamilton said: “Having already launched the Zipslide through Paradise, our inaugural Golf Day and Celtic FC Foundation’s participation in this year’s Kiltwalk, I am delighted to add the 1888 Charity Shield and Ben Nevis Huddle to the 2015 events calendar.

“We hope our varied programme offers the opportunity for as many of our supporters to get involved in a fundraising event as possible. We have been overwhelmed by the interest and enthusiasm shown so far and this is reflected in the number of sign-ups we have already received. Many of our events are limited in availability so we encourage everyone to sign-up as soon as possible.”
