Fran Alonso’s side were due to welcome Motherwell to the Excelsior Stadium on 18th December, however, due to the weather it was postponed. This means that the year is finished for the Hoops and they will return in 2023 after the winter break.
2022 was a memorable year for Alonso’s side , having pulled off some amazing results with amazing score lines , such as the recent 7-0 win against Dundee United . They are currently three points behind Glasgow City , who are currently holding the top spot , which means so far , Alonso is having a good league campaign and will hope to continue the form into the new season.
The most memorable moment for Celtic this year , came from their memorable run in the Scottish Women’s Cup. Alonso’s side came out on top winning the trophy after a 3-2 win against Glasgow City . It was a memorable campaign for Alonso and it was his second trophy that season after already winning the league cup against Patrick Thistle at the tail end of 2021
Some of Celtic’s memorable victories of 2022 came from the 21/22 season with the team pulling off some amazing results against the likes of Hearts , Hamilton , Aberdeen, Hibs, and Spartans Women , scoring 20+ combined against all of them.
These results are what inspired the Celtic supporters to attend more of the Ghirls games , with more and more fans making the effort to travel to each game this season.
When speaking on the importance of the support attending each game , Alonso said : “When there are big crowds the girls feel passionate and brave. For me, the crowd is key.”
Overall , 2022 was a successful year for the Ghirls , as they had a successful cup run and have pulled off some dominant performances in the league , leaving them in a good place to challenge for the league title after the break.
