St. Johnstone 2 -1 Celtic

MacLean (56′)             Griffiths (53)

Cummins  (77′)

A frustrating defeat at St. Johnstone ends a twelve match unbeaten league run for the newly crowned SPFL  Champions.

Throughout the early stages of the game St. Johnstone seemed dominant and pressured Celtic on a number of occasions. Although the best opportunity of the first half came from Celtic. A double save from Zander Clarke to deny Griffiths and Christie kept the scoring goalless until the second forty-five.

Seven minutes after the break Stefan Johansen played in Leigh Griffiths who then beat three players in the Saints defence and slotted home his fortieth goal of the season. However just moments later a defensive mistake from Johansen allowed Steven MacLean through on goal to place the ball past Logan Bailly. Celtic searched for another goal but it was St. Johnstone who found the lead. A clash between teammates Efe Ambrose and goalkeeper Logan Bailly forced Bailly to spill the ball and  give substitute Cummins an easy shot at goal which he scored comfortably. As the game continued the hoops came close but could not manage to get an equalizer.

The win secures fourth place for St. Johnstone and keeps Celtic on eighty-three points with one game to play.

Celtic Man of the Match – Erik Sviatchenko. Calm composed and solid at the back as well as proving to be a commanding captain Sviatchenko stood out for Celtic.
