Fran Alonso’s Celtic side welcome Motherwell Women to the Excelsior stadium on Sunday 18th December in what will turn out to be an exciting but cold wintery clash as both sides will have to face the big freeze.
Once again, Alonso’s aim will be for his side to close the gap between themselves and city rivals , Rangers with only one point being the difference between the two sides , he will also be hoping for his side to get closer to leaders Glasgow City as they remain three points behind them. Alonso will have to rely on both sides dropping points to do so but his main focus will be on his team getting past Motherwell.
The last time the Ghirls played The Women of Steel they came out on top with a dominant eight goal thriller. Alonso will be hoping for more of the same when they welcome the visitors to Airdrie.
It is the last game before the winter break so it adds more fuel to the fire for the hosts and the Ghirls will want to finish off on a high and put on a show for their home support.
Celtic midfielder Liv Chance is looking for her team to continue their impressive current form and finish off 2022 with another victory and a defensive clean sheet .
When speaking on the game , Chance said : “We can always take the positives from the last game but it’s also about consistency, and in the last couple of games I think we have really stepped on and we’re playing better as a team so hopefully we can show that this weekend.
“It’s massive for the whole team but especially for the defensive unit and the goalkeepers.
“They want to keep clean-sheets, and if we’re scoring goals and not conceding, then we’re winning games, so the more important thing is that we can keep a clean-sheet so we can let the attackers score goals and have fun.”
