Fran Alonso’s Celtic side return to league action for their first league fixture of 2023. Alonso’s side travel to New Tinto Park in Glasgow to face Glasgow Women.
Celtic are coming off the back of a dominant Scottish Cup victory against Falkirk , winning 9-0 and will be hoping to take that form with them into their league fixture.
Glasgow Women also won their last game. They booked their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup after defeating Inverness City 5-1. They have However lost all of their league games , meaning they are 12th in the SWPFL.
Alonso will be confident that his side can continue their winning ways and continue to put pressure on Glasgow City and Rangers who sit above them in the league.
They are currently six points behind Glasgow City, who are currently at the top spot but Alonso’s team have a game in hand and will look to shorten the gap. Rangers are currently one point ahead of the girls , so a Celtic win and Rangers slip up is required for the hoops to leapfrog Rangers in the title race .
Celtic are currently four games unbeaten and will be looking to continue on with that. Alonso’s side have also scored twenty goals in the last four games which is really making a statement to the other teams in the league
Celtic’s Amy Gallagher was a standout in the Ghirls last fixture, scoring a Hat-Trick. Gallagher will be hoping for another good display in the next game. When speaking on the game , Gallagher said : “I don’t really set targets but I would like to score as many as possible, assist as many as possible and help the team as much as I can.”
“We go into every match the same and treat the team with respect.
The game against Glasgow women kicks off at 12 pm on the 15th January, a day after the men’s league cup semi final , so supporters will have a good chance to go and see the Ghirls in action
